JERSEY CITY — Jersey City Police arrested two West Orange men in the shooting of a 29-year-old Jersey City man just before 1 a.m. Friday at Bramhall Avenue and Sackett Street. The suspects allegedly fled the area in a grey vehicle, leading police on a high-speed pursuit, with the vehicle crashing at Broadway and Route 1/9. The driver, Cletus Honroe, 23, and the passenger, Michael Lewis, 25, allegedly attempted to flee the scene but were apprehended by police. Officers searched the area near the crash and discovered a black handgun in a grassy area. The victim, who suffered one gunshot wound, is in stable condition at the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health.
The investigation is ongoing; however, detectives believe the shooting is related to a dispute the two suspects had earlier in the day.
Honroe and Lewis were both charged with criminal attempt (homicide), unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, receiving stolen property (the handgun), eluding police, resisting arrest and reckless driving.
