JERSEY CITY – A published report said that Jersey City officials have criticized Recreation Director Ryan Strother for failing to remove a registered sex offender as a seasonal employee.
Strother allegedly hired a male sex offender and kept him on the payroll even after a report showed the man’s criminal past.
Mayor Steven Fulop has apparently issued a letter telling Strother to resign or the mayor will seek to have the City Council terminate him.
“The director showed extremely poor judgment, and we’re still struggling to understand his decision-making process here,” said Jersey City spokesman Ryan Jacobs. “With that in mind, we can’t have a director, or any employee, who fails to appreciate the seriousness of a situation like this, where children are involved. That’s why we’re terminating Mr. Strother.”
Strother did not return request for comment as of press time.
