Dear Editor:
As a lifelong resident and twelve-year veteran of the Jersey City public schools, it’s nice to know that someone like Gina Verdibello is running for a seat in the upcoming School Board elections. Over the course of the previous school year, I had the privilege of hearing Gina speak as a consistent champion for public education at monthly Board of Education meetings, City Hall, and in various Facebook groups.
A mother of three, her messages resonate with parents as much as they do public school employees, addressing relevant issues like the condition of facilities, teacher contracts, and administrative accountability. In fact, I’ve nicknamed her the “Building Watchdog” because of her dedication to visiting facilities. She reports her observations respectfully and is always an effective spokeswoman for opinion-relay. Make no mistake, Gina’s efforts are not only limited to speaking on behalf of public education. I’ve personally distributed school supplies with her at a back-to-school event held at St. Peter’s College. I’ve repeatedly observed her at various city-wide events sponsored by organizations like the Jersey City Parks Coalition and the Jersey City Rotary. On a parental level, I’m also aware of her involvement with her daughter’s Girl Scouts Troop. In conclusion, Gina has earned the respect of my colleagues as an authentic advocate for public education. It is without reserve that I recommend she be considered for any and all forms of earned media.
Sincerely,
John Flora
