Pedestrian struck in Union City

UNION CITY – Lidia Mora, 63, of Union City was struck by a van while trying to cross Paterson Plank Road near Secaucus Road at about 3:22 p.m. on Aug. 24.
“The driver of the minivan, Jamaira Estrada, age 40, of Union City, stopped at the scene and called 9-1-1,” said Sheriff Frank X Schillari
Mora was thrown approximately 30 feet after being struck and police found her lying in the road, conscious, but in pain. She was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center and was initially listed in serious condition; she has been stabilized but remains in ICU pending surgery to her hip.
She received injuries to her face, arms, legs and hip.
“Sheriff’s Crash Investigators have determined that Mora was within the crosswalk but may have been crossing against the light. Investigators are reviewing video footage from nearby security cameras and have also interviewed witnesses; the crash is still under investigation at this time,” said Schillari.
