Heat wave coming; don’t leave kids and pets in cars; stay cool

HUDSON COUNTY — The Hudson County Office of Emergency Management has issued a warning about an “extended period of hazy, hot, and humid days with temperatures in the 90s.”
They wrote, “Temperatures over the weekend can reach between 95F and 100F degrees with heat index well over 100F degrees.”
And:
“REMEMBER THE PETS AND THE ELDERLY ARE AT INCREASED RISK WHEN IT COMES TO THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY AND ANY OUTDOOR ACTIVITY SHOULD BE AVOIDED UNLESS ITS EARLY IN THE MORNING OR EARLY IN THE EVENING.IT SHOULD ALSO BE RE-ENFORCED ABOUT NOT LEAVING CHILDREN AND PETS IN HOT VEHICLES.
ALSO EACH DAY WITH THE HEAT WAVE THERE WILL BE THE RISK OF AN ISOLATED RAIN SHOWER AND OR THUNDERSTORM WHICH WILL BRING ONLY BRIEF RELIEF WHERE THEY OCCUR. MAIN THREAT WITH ANY OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE HEAVY RAINFALL AND DANGEROUS CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING STRIKES.
REMEMBER THE DEFINITION OF A HEAT WAVE IS THREE CONSECUTIVE DAYS OF MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES OF 90 DEGREES OR ABOVE THIS HEAT WAVE IS EXPECTED TO LAST FROM 5 TO 7 DAYS.
