One hundred steps for one million good deeds

Dear Editor:
Recently the Franklin Street steps were renamed “Bill Gaughan Way” in honor of the longest serving councilmember in the history of Jersey City William A. Gaughan.
This tribute was right and fitting to former Councilman Gaughan who spent many years to obtain the funding and move the rehab of the steps in the heights area forward. But beyond the efforts on these steps is the human compassion and caring exhibited on a daily basis for the people of Jersey City and Hudson County. There is not one day that goes by that Bill Gaughan does not assist a resident of the city or county in all walks of life, from the most august political person to the constituent in the area who needs help with the necessities of life. No one is ignored by Bill and there are a myriad of people who will stand up and state that Bill meant something in their lives.
We are fortunate to have Bill Gaughan in our city and county and may the good Lord continue to bless and keep him.
