BYSA alum to play for Dominican Republic’s national team

Dominican Futbol Association asked Gladys Loyas head to the Dominican Republic for the team’s Olympic Qualifying games from August 19 – 26. The women will face Jamaica, Bermuda and Dominica. Loyas, a dual citizen of both the U.S. and the Dominican Republic, is a former four-time all-state selection at S.S. Seward in Florida, NY, is heading into her junior year at North Carolina State University. This will be her second international competition with the team as a starter after playing in last year’s Women’s World Cup qualifying games.
In high school, she led her team to five sectional titles, a state championship and finished her career at the school with 145 goals. Known for her sprinter speed, she has previously trained with Fluminense Football Club in Brazil alongside Ronaldinho Gaucho. She has also trained and played under Mark White as part of the North Jersey Valkyries in Wayne in a career that includes overcoming several injuries.
