WNY mayor’s son gets county job

WEST NEW YORK – Joseph Roque, son of Mayor Felix Roque, was hired by the Hudson County Department of Roads recently.
Roque was convicted of a misdemeanor two years ago for his role in hacking into the political website of a political official who opposed his father.
He was sentenced to a year’s probation after a federal trial that also cleared his father of wrongdoing.
Mayor Roque told the Hudson Reporter last week that the federal trial was among the roughest moments of his life, partly because it put his son at risk. “I might have pleaded guilty — even though I was innocent — if it wasn’t for my son,” Roque said. “I didn’t want him to come to harm.”
It is uncertain whether the new role with the county will tap Joseph’s computer skills.
