BAYONNE – High school hockey goalie Akiel Fogoe, 17, lost everything on July 11 when he and his father barely escaped a fire that destroyed their home at 77 E.21st St. The blaze left Fogoe empty-handed on the ice without his goalie equipment.
To the rescue came his hockey teammates, reports NJ.com, who worked through their school, social media, and the mega-hockey gear supplier CCM to organize a special night for Akiel and his family at the AmeriHealth Pavilion, the official practice facility of the New Jersey Devils.
With uncertain expectations, one night last week the Fogoes arrived at the pavilion, only to be surprised by a reception that included a brand-new set of CCM goal-tending equipment, presented to them by Devils coach John Hynes, in his first year with his NHL team.
It looks like Akiel is going to summer hockey camp after all.
