JERSEY CITY – Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced on July 24 that the 16 year old shot on July 22 in Jersey City has died from his injuries.
At approximately 12:30 a.m. on July 22, Jersey City Police Officers responded to the area of Monticello and Belmont Avenues on a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, Ronald Witherspoon, Jr., 16, of Jersey City, with an apparent gunshot wound to his head. Witherspoon was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition until he died from his injuries. Witherspoon was pronounced dead on July 23 at approximately 7:45 p.m.
The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is now conducting the investigation with the assistance of the Jersey City Police Department. No arrests have been made. The investigation remains active.
