A memorial mass took place June 27 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Newtown, Conn., for Michael D. Hurley, 76. He passed away May 29 with his wife of 43 years by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on in Jersey City, he was the son of the late Thomas and Rose (Duffy) Hurley. Michael attended St. John’s Parochial School and St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City. He was a standout athlete and football player at St. Peter’s. He received countless athletic accolades and was named to numerous All-State first teams by various publications, including the Newark Star Ledger and the Jersey Journal. In 2010, he was inducted into the St. Peter’s Prep Athletic Hall of Fame for his athletic achievements in football. He graduated from Boston College and served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps. After a distinguished career in business he retired in Connecticut.
Michael was predeceased by his parents and two of his sisters. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; his sister, Anne Trocki of West Orange; his daughters, Maura (Rusty) Kuehling of Amsterdam, NY, Cara (Ben) Wallen of Colorado Springs, CO and Micaela (Jason) McMurrough of New York, NY; and his pride and joy – his eight grandchildren: Grace, Shawn and Maggie Kuehling, Alec, Jack and Sadie Wallen, Evelyn McMurrough (and baby).
