HOBOKEN–Laughter may just be the best medicine for animals in Hudson County this month. Starting on Wednesday, June 17, the First Annual NJFunnyfest will bring five days of live comedy to Hoboken, Jersey City, and Fairfield to help raise money for the Liberty Humane Society (LHS).
A shelter and veterinary clinic serving all of Hudson County, LHS fosters a community of compassion and respect, and provides animals in need with a chance at a lifelong, loving home. Its low-cost clinic offers vaccines, flea and tick control, and microchipping.
NJFunnyfest founder Dan Frigolette has made LHS the focal point of his charitable comedy activities. The shelter receives funds from the Hoboken Comedy Festival, which takes place annually in September, and this past March to April, Frigolette raised over $1200 for LHS on a 42-day, 6,400-mile comedy tour from New York City to Alaska.
“Adding the charity to what we do with these comedy shows adds a personality and element of benevolence to what we already love doing” said Frigolette. “The better the show the more we are able to raise.”
This year’s festival will include performances from Chuck Nice from Good Morning America, Jon Fisch and Moody McCarthy from Late Night with David Letterman, Simeon Goodson and Derek Gaines from MTV and Broke A$$ Game Show, Richie Redding who opens for Kat Williams, Calise Hawkins who can be seen on Comedy Central and Oxygen, Vladimir Camaano from NBC and Frigolette himself, who has been seen on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.
In total, the NJFunnyfest will feature 25 comedians with zero repetition throughout the festival.
Each show will attempt to pass donation buckets, letting the audience decide exactly how much money the Liberty Humane Society is in store for. In addition, the NJFunnyfest vows $1 per person in attendance of each show.
