Hoping to cure the ills of a (0-8) regular season, the Islanders had one last shot to write a storybook ending to their saga as they faced the (4-3-1) Devils in a JCC of Bayonne Senior Division Floor Hockey playoff bout. Not ready to play the part of the 1986 Boston Red Sox, the Devils ruled the day as goals by Mackenzie Woods (3), Marek Mickiewicz (2), Logan Mazziota (2), and Jacob Kowal (1) put the “Red Shirts” up 8-zip. Inspite of the lopsided score, the Islanders’ offense outshot the Devils 22 to 15 in the first half as Julian Giron, Andres Giron, Elliott Santana, and Jaden Subacz each chipped in with zip-line blasts. As the shots rained in, the Devils found their red hot goalie Colin Woods more than up to the challenge as Woods frustrated the Islanders at every turn. The Islanders did stay the course and with 8 minutes remaining a pinpoint pass from J. P. Egan to Jake Peregrin finally resulted in a goal as Peregrin notched his fifth goal of the season. Holding an 8-1 advantage, the Devils kept the Islanders in check by sailing long vollies down court as Chloe Gregory, Allen McComb, and John Bautista blasted away. The Devils finished off the effort as John Bautista bulled in his first goal of the season for a 9-1 Devils’ victory. A special mention must be given to the Islanders’ Harsh Easwar who played brilliantly in spite of the score or situations.
