A funeral mass was offered June 4 at St. Francis RC Church, Hoboken, for Vincenzo Mezzina, 96, of Hoboken. He passed away May 31 in Hackensack. Predeceased by his wife, Maddalenain 2011, and a brother, Onofrio. Vincenzo was born in Molfetta, Italy and served in the Italian Army there. In Italy, Mr. Mezzina operated his own fishing boat for which he was honored one year in having the statue of Madonna Dei Martri on board for the annual feast day celebration there. After coming to the United States, he was a retired container operator for Seatrain in Weehawken.
Surviving are his two sons, Nicola and his wife Francesca, and Onofrio (Alfred) Mezzina and his wife Carmela; his only daughter, Carmela DeFazio and her husband Francesco. He will be missed by his two sisters, Vittoria Racanati and Ottavia Pansini; and his brother-in-law, Sebastiano. A great joy in his life were his grandchildren, Vincent Mezzina and his wife Susan, Melissa O’Sullivan and her husband Kevin, Damien and Daniela DeFazio, Vincent Mezzina and his wife Mariell, and Madeline Maloney and her husband Marc. He was the great grandfather of Addison, Lia, Nicolas, and Francesco. Also surviving are his in-laws, Vittoria, Pantaleo, and Antonietta Morin. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
