To the Editor:
This letter serves as an implement for me to express my utmost appreciation to all individuals who supported me, Alyssa Baez, and my nephew, Carter Baez, following the deaths of my mother, Melanie Polito, and my sister, Ashley Baez, on January 27, 2015. As I received many nameless donations, I think this is the best method to reach the majority of the generous people. The overwhelming amount of backing I received, both emotionally and financially, was truly remarkable. Local businesses, resourceful companies, beloved friends, and kind-hearted strangers all opened their arms alike and provided me and Carter with abundant care. Within minutes of the Bayonne community becoming aware of the tragic situation, I received innumerable texts and phone calls with condolences and with inquiries on how to help. Although my mother’s and sister’s deaths were grievous, my nephew and I were exposed to the loving community. Seeing everyone in “Alyssa Strong” t-shirts and viewing previous strangers provide their generosity truly brought tears of happiness to my eyes. The way in which the public united through fundraisers and helping hands was tremendously phenomenal. I, having lived in Bayonne for my 18 years, never witnessed such an extensive collaboration. With my everlasting gratitude being expressed, I would like to give a small scope of mine and Carter’s upcoming endeavors. Due to everyone’s encouragement and assistance, I will be graduating from BHS in June, and I am a member of the Circle of Ten. In the fall, I will be attending George Washington University to study International Affairs. My nephew, Carter, will continue his maturation under the loving watch of my great-aunt/godmother, and myself. Once again, Carter and I greatly thank everyone for their nourishment; it was, and will always continue to be, an everlasting blessing.
ALYSSA BAEZ
