At 5-0, the Penguins are in every team’s crosshairs as they try to stay perfect in their quest for a JCC of Bayonne Senior Division Floor Hockey championship. At 3-2, the Devils were chomping at the bit as they got another shot at the league’s top squad. Getting out to a fast start, the Devils took a 2-0 advantage as Mackenzie Woods drilled in two goals off assists by Logan Mazziota and Jacob Kowal. Sensing the Penguins’ frustration on offense, the Devils loaded up on defense with John Bautista, Chloe Gregory, and Marek Mickiewicz anchored in the defensive zone. The move paid off until the Penguins’ iron-willed tandem of James Bajor and Jared Radil fought through the gauntlet to set up an assist from Caitlin Feeley as the Penguins made it 2-1 on a Bajor goal. Shifting gears once more, the Devils went back on the attack as Logan Mazziota rifled a pass to Allen “Lefty” McComb who made it 3-1 with a scoring dart. With just under 15 minutes remaining, the Penguins “pitched at tent” in front of the Devils’ net as Megan Feeley and Kasper Hooks peppered shots on net. After multiple post dingers, the Penguins bulled in two late game goals as Jared Radil and James Bajor tied the game at 3-3 to force overtime. With both Colin Woods (Devils) and Matt Doyle (Penguins) readied at net, O.T. took on a “gold medal” feel as both squads battled for shots. After a near miss by Alejandro Cifuentes, the Penguins perfect season continued as Drew Radil assisted Jared Radil on the game winning goal as the Penguins survive with a 4-3 overtime victory.
