ALTOMARE, JULIA

A funeral mass was offered May 20 at St. Francis R.C. Church, Hoboken, for Julia Altomare, 92, of Hoboken. She passed away at home surrounded by her children on May 16. Born in Molfetta, Italy, Julia was married to Morris (Mauro) Altomare for 58 years prior to his passing in 2005. Her former husband Vincent Azzolini was killed in action in Okinawa during World War II after only an eleven month marriage. A retired seamstress with various coat companies in New York City and Hoboken, Julia was a parishioner of St. Francis Church where she was a member of the Madonna Dei Martri Ladies Society.
Mrs. Altomare came to Hoboken in 1935 from Italy and was a resident until her death. Julia was the mother of Phyllis Truglio and her husband Alex, Vickie (Procaccino) Polansky and her husband Frank, and Anthony Altomare and his wife Laurie. Also surviving are her grandchildren Colette Camisa, Julie Scott, Josephine Truglio, Amanda Prunty, Alyssa Procaccino, Katie Altomare and Nicholas Polansky. Eleven great grandchildren also survive her with a host of nieces and nephews. Julia was predeceased by a sister Antoinetta Magarelli and a brother Joseph Giancaspro. Services arranged by the Failla Funeral Home, Hoboken.
