Here’s a rundown of recent Little League play:

Justin Brown leads Young Dems to 8-4 victory

On Monday May 4, Justin Brown came up big at the dish and on the mound, leading Young Dems to a 8-4 win over Fire Dept.. Justin had two extra-base hits for Young Dems. He doubled in the first and third innings and singled in the seventh inning. The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to seven lead changes in the game. Young Dems finally managed to grab the lead after a strong seventh inning. Young Dems scored on an RBI single by Justin off Matthew Potter, plating Rodney Classen. Fire Dept.’s poor play in the field contributed to the loss. Fire Dept. gave up four unearned runs while committing six errors over the course of the game. Fire Dept. was led by Michael Caracappa‘s hitting. Michael went 1-3, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the third inning. Young Dems was sparked by Tomas Garen and Rodney Classen, who teamed up for seven hits and six RBIs.

Early lead gives Stan’s victory over Elks, 17-3

Stan’s beat Elks 17-3 in four innings after a 10-run explosion in the third inning on Monday. Stan’s scored in the third on a two-run triple by Joshua Sapira, an error, an RBI single by Jack Conlon, a walk by Jude Sergeant, a two-run single by Vincent Chirichella, and a two-run single by Joshua. Stan’s pulled out the win thanks to a strong second inning. A groundout by Daniel Raskes scored Jude and gave Stan’s the lead for good. Joshua racked up five RBIs on three hits for Stan’s.

Dual-threat carries Chirichella Boys past Mario’s Pizza 17-2

On Tuesday May 5, Ryan Burke carried Chirichella Boys to a 17-2 victory over Mario’s Pizza with a strong game at the plate and on the hill. Ryan racked up five RBIs on two hits for Chirichella Boys. He singled in the first inning and tripled in the second inning. Thirteen runs in the opening three innings allowed Chirichella Boys to easily put away Mario’s Pizza. A steal of home by Michael D’Antonio and an RBI single by Fayvian Cordova during the first inning and a three-run triple by Ryan and a groundout by James Davis in the second inning fueled Chirichella Boys’ offense early. Patrick Groo had a hot bat for Mario’s Pizza. Patrick went 1-2, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the fourth inning.

Cassesa’s outlast Mas Demolition in high-scoring affair, 14-10

Cassesa’s and Mas Demolition lit up the scoreboard on Tuesday as they combined for 24 runs. In the end, Cassesa’s won the offensive battle 14-10 in six innings. Cassesa’s took the lead in the fourth inning and held on for the victory. Cassesa’s went up for good on an RBI double by Anthony Henriquez off Donny Rosso, bringing home Jacob Pantoja. Nyjohn Freeman racked up five RBIs on three hits for Cassesa’s. He doubled in the first inning, homered in the second inning, and singled in the fifth inning. The top of the first saw Cassesa’s take an early lead, 3-0. Cassesa’s’ rally started when Jacob doubled. A stolen base then moved Jacob from second to third. Nyjohn doubled, plating Jacob and Anthony. Cassesa’s then tacked on more runs when Freeman scored on a groundout by Joseph Giattino. Mas Demolition quickly matched Cassesa’s’ strong inning with a three-run inning of its own in the first. Mas Demolition scored on a steal of home by Donny Rosso and a two-run single by Conner Caloni. Cassesa’s added two more runs in the top of the fifth. The inning looked promising, as Nyjohn singled, scoring Max Schewede to kick things off. That was followed up with a steal of home by Nyjohn.

Piccolo’s falls 10-4 at the hands of Russo’s

On Wednesday May 6, Gage Lucken racked up three RBIs on one hit for Russo’s. He homered in the fourth inning. Russo’s stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the first, scoring three runs on an error and a fielder’s choice. After pushing across three runs in the top of the fourth, Piccolo’s faced just a 5-4 deficit. An RBI single by Troy Reynolds, a fielder’s choice, and a steal of home by Anthony Cuozzo set off Piccolo’s rally. The Piccolo’s threat came to an end when Jae Coto finally got Brandon Jurado to ground out. Russo’s quickly matched Piccolo’s’ strong inning with a three-run inning of its own in the fourth. Russo’s scored on a three-run home run by Gage.

Early lead gives Fiore’s victory over Police Dept., 14-0

On Thursday May 7, with 10 runs in the first three innings, Fiore’s left no doubt about the eventual outcome. An RBI single by SAMMY COOPER and a two-run double by Noah Strandberg in the first inning and an RBI single by SAMMY during the second inning supplied the early offense for Fiore’s. Raymond Fiore got a hit in each of his three at bats. He singled in the first and second innings and tripled in the fourth inning. Fiore’s increased its lead with six runs in the third. Owen Martin started the inning with a double, plating Connor McIntyre and Lawrence Katz. That was followed up by Antonio Clemente‘s single, scoring Owen and Samuel Altberger.

Young Dems jumps on Stan’s early and coasts to 12-5 win

Six runs in the first three innings allowed Young Dems to put Thursday’s game away early. An RBI single by Justin Brown and an error in the first inning and an RBI double by Rodney Classen, a two-run triple by Justin, and an RBI single by Tomas Garen during the second inning supplied the early offense for Young Dems. Justin racked up four RBIs on three hits for Young Dems. Joshua Sapira racked up three RBIs on one hit for Stan’s. He tripled in the fourth inning. Four runs in the bottom of the fourth helped Stan’s close its deficit to 8-4. A bases loaded walk by Vincent Chirichella and a three-run triple by Joshua sparked Stan’s’ rally. Daniel struck out to end the Stan’s threat.

Chirichella Boys gets 13 strikeouts from Matthew Stewart in 6-1 win over Elks

On Friday May 8, an ace performance by Matthew Stewart carried Chirichella Boys to a 6-1 win in six innings over Elks on Friday at HOBOKEN. Isa Oliveri racked up three RBIs on two hits for Chirichella Boys. He singled in the first inning and tripled in the fourth inning. Elks was led by Mike Aviles‘s hitting. Mike went 2-3 and drove in one. He singled in the first and fourth innings. In the first inning, Elks pushed across its only run of the day on an RBI single by Mike. Chirichella Boys never surrendered the lead after the fourth inning, scoring five runs on an error and a two-run triple by Isa.

Cassesa’s tops Fire Dept. in back-and-forth affair, 4-3

Cassesa’s and Fire Dept. volleyed the lead five times on Friday, but Cassesa’s came out on top for a 4-3 win. Cassesa’s took the lead in the fifth inning and held on for the victory. A groundout by Nyjohn Freeman scored Jacob Pantoja and gave Cassesa’s the lead for good. Cassesa’s was led by a flawless day at the dish by Jacob Pantoja, who went 3-3 against Fire Dept.’s pitching. He tripled in the third inning and singled in the first and fifth innings. Seshan Ganesan racked up two RBIs on one hit for Fire Dept. He tripled in the third inning. The bottom of the first saw Cassesa’s take an early lead, 2-0. Cassesa’s got a spark in the form of a Jacob single, before before Anthony Henriquez tripled, scoring Jacob. Cassesa’s pushed more runs across when Henriquez scored on a steal of home.

Early lead gives Russo’s victory over Mario’s Pizza, 13-3

On Saturday May 9, a two-run single by Anthony Fragosa and an error during the first inning and an RBI triple by Jonathan Salinas in the second inning supplied the early offense for Russo’s. Jonathan had a busy day at the plate, collecting three extra-base hits. . Gage Lucken, Anthony and Jonathan helped lead Russo’s. They combined for four hits and six RBIs. Russo’s built upon its lead with three runs in the third. A bases loaded walk scored Robert Brockman for the inning’s first run. In the fifth Russo’s scored on a two-run double by Jonathan, an RBI triple by Gage, an error, a walk by Joel Lopez, and a walk by Matthew Neissan.

Mas Demolition falls 11-3 at the hands of Fiore’s

Police Dept. and Piccolo’s passed the lead back and forth five times, but in the end Police Dept. pulled out a 7-4 win in six innings over Piccolo’s. Police Dept. took the lead in the third inning and held on for the victory. An error scored Daniel Wehrhahn and gave Police Dept. the lead for good.
Dominick Manziano paced Police Dept. at the plate. Dominick went 2-3 and scored two runs. He singled in the first inning and tripled in the third inning. Troy Reynolds went a perfect 2-2 at the plate for Piccolo’s. He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the sixth inning. The top of the first saw Police Dept. take an early lead, 2-0. The Police Dept. attack began with a single from Dominick. A stolen base then moved Dominick from second to third. Police Dept. added more runs when W ehrhahn scored on a groundout by Gabriel Rothkegel. Police Dept. never surrendered the lead after the third inning. The runs piled on thanks to three singles.

Chirichella Boys seize victory thanks to late double, drop Stan’s 10-5

On Monday May 11, Chirichella Boys took the last of seven lead changes in a back-and-forth affair against Stan’s, securing a 10-5 victory on Monday at HOBOKEN. Chirichella Boys finally managed to grab the lead after a strong fourth inning. Chirichella Boys scored on an RBI double by Michael D’Antonio off Joshua Sapira, scoring Matthew Stewart. Matthew reached base two times in the game for Chirichella Boys. He scored three runs and had one RBI. He doubled in the fourth inning. The top of the first saw Chirichella Boys take an early lead, 1-0. Stan’s quickly matched Chirichella Boys’ strong inning with a two-run inning of its own in the first. Stan’s scored on an RBI single by Daniel Raskes and a steal of home by Joshua. It didn’t take long for Stan’s to respond as it scored two runs of its own in the third. Stan’s scored on a two-run triple by Brandon. Chirichella Boys never surrendered the lead after the fourth inning. The runs piled on thanks to an RBI double by Matthew and a groundout by Isa. One run in the bottom of the fifth helped Stan’s close its deficit to 6-5. An RBI single by Daniel set off Stan’s rally. Finally, Ryan Burke got Jack Conlon to strike out to end the threat. Chirichella Boys increased its lead with four runs in the sixth. A error scored Nathan Kriegel to start the scoring in the inning.

Young Dems jumped out to an early lead on Cassesa’s and captured a 12-1 victory on Monday at HOBOKEN. The game was decided quickly as Young Dems exerted its will early with 12 runs in the first three innings. A single by Justin Brown and a groundout by Tomas Garen during the first inning and a two-run triple by Jason Blanks, an RBI single by Rodney Classen, an RBI single by Tomas, a bases loaded walk by Anthony Henriquez, an error, and a groundout by Gabe Laden in the second inning supplied the early offense for Young Dems.
