Mazziota, Mickiewicz, Woods fire-up Devils

Facing off in their JCC of Bayonne Sr. Division Floor Hockey Season opener, the Islanders and Devils hit the court in mid-season form. Battling to a 0-0 tie for the first fifteen minutes, the Islanders’ defense led by Jake Peregrin, Elliott Santana, Julian Giron and Jaden Subacz kept the Devils’ sharp shooters at bay in the early going. What changed the script was the Devils’ rock solid goal tending by Colon Woods who frustrated the Isles’ offense at every turn. Feeding off Woods’ effort, the Devils’ offense caught fire as the goals started to rack up with Marek Mickiewicz (2 goals, 2 assists), Logan Mazziota (3 goals, 2 assists) and Chloe Gregory (1 assist) doing all the damage. Rolling towards a shutout performance, the Devils’ Colon Woods did get tested down the stretch as the Islanders’ Harsh Easwar and Julian Giron blasted shots off the post. In the end, some great saves at net by Woods and the tenacious ballhawking of defensemen John Bautista and Chloe Gregory proved to be the difference as the Devils notched a 5-0 victory.
