SECAUCUS – A collision between a motorcycle and a car took place about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28 on Route 3 West near the Route 495 and Routes 1&9 interchange. The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, North Bergen Police Department and Secaucus Police Department responded to the scene. Several lanes of Route 3 West were closed for approximately three hours while the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit investigated the scene
According to a press release from Hudson County Sheriff Frank X. Schilari, a 2009 Ford Fusion driven by 52-year-old male from Bath, Pennsylvania was merging onto Route 3 West from Routes 1&9 when it collided with a Yamaha Sport motorcycle, driven by a 25-year-old male from Clifton New Jersey.
The motorcycle driver was merging onto Route 3 West from Route 495.
The impact of the collision threw the motorcycle driver from his vehicle. “Both he and the motorcycle slid over 300 feet across three lanes of traffic,” read the press release. “He was rushed to Hackensack Medical Center by Meadowlands EMS with serious injuries.”
As of this morning, the motorcycle driver was listed in stable condition.
“Preliminary findings show the motorcycle may have been in the blind spot of the car at the time of the collision,” said Schillari in the press release. “The driver immediately stopped and rendered aid to the rider and no charges have been filed at this time.”
