BAYONNE — Born and raised in Bayonne, U.S. Army General Martin E. Dempsey was just named by TIME as one of the top 100 most influential people in the world.
Dempsey, 63, who was named chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2011 is known to boast about being raised in Bayonne.
The four-star general who has served in Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, lived in Bayonne until he was in the seventh grade and relocated to Greenwood Lake, N.J. before eventually attending West Point.
He was commissioned as an officer in 1974.
Dempsey is also known to be a huge Frank Sinatra fan.
