At (4-4) all three JCC of Bayonne Indoor Soccer Sr. Division squads felt optimistic about their shot at earning “gold”. For the Sonics and Rockets, a playoff bout added some additional drama. In a tightly contested battle, the Rockets got on the board first as Jaden Subacz assisted Kevin Aguilar who made it 1-0. With their offense stuck in neutral, the Sonics turned to their defensive “ace” James Bajor to get things rolling and Bajor answered with a game tying goal off an assist by Allen McComb. Frozen at 1-1 for over 20 minutes, the defenses ruled the pace as Harsh Easwar, Chloe Gregory, and Natallyah Teixeira brickwalled for the Rockets while T. J. Wolf, Mackenzie Woods, Robert Ochoa, Alejandro Cifuentes, and Alejandro Vargas shared the heavy lifting for the Sonics’ defense. Brawling towards their second overtime game, the Rockets had other ideas as Jaden Subacz once again assisted Kevin Aguilar on a scoring dart. Down 2-1, the Sonics turned the last five minutes into a whirlwind of shots on net but the Rockets’ hunkered down and weathered the storm for a 2-1 victory and a shot at the Comets for the gold medal.
