Historic

Dear Editor:

I am the home owner of a wood-frame structure, built in 1887. Jersey City wants to make my neighborhood historic! The state and national registries have already done so! The only reason J.C. wants to “designate” my neighborhood as historic” is so Jersey City can charge me more in fees for living here!
Unlike condo owners, an individual homeowner like myself does not have a condo association to distribute the costs of the fees for new certifications that will be charged by Jersey City! Unlike condo associations and apartment owners, I don’t qualify for the tax incentives and grants that these entities listed above do! Oh! And from now on I have to dye the concrete used in front of my house grey! What does the color of concrete have to do with historic preservation? My sidewalk is 80 years old!
