Jacked Jackson tracked, brought back

Police have reunited a woman with a twenty-dollar bill that was allegedly snatched from her hand as she walked on Newark Street, according to a report from the Hoboken Police Department. The alleged suspect was spotted based on a description and arrested not long after he allegedly fled the scene of the crime on foot, police said.
According to Port Authority police, the woman was walking near the intersection of Newark and Hudson streets on the morning of Tuesday, March 17 when a man allegedly grabbed a $20 bill from her hand and ran. The victim screamed, and a male witness chased the suspect before losing sight of him near First and River streets, said police.
Roughly 15 minutes later, Hoboken Police Officer Orlando Moctezuma spotted a man matching the description and conducted a field interview, according to police.
The suspect, Bayonne resident Bruce Piggot, 30, was allegedly positively identified by the witness who had chased him earlier, and a search revealed a $20 bill allegedly in Piggot’s front left pocket, police said.
According to police, Piggot allegedly confessed to stealing the bill. He was charged with theft and released on a summons, police said.

High-sticking

Two Irish nationals and a New Jersey man told diverging tales of an early morning scuffle involving a yellow metal stick in downtown Hoboken, according to a report from the Hoboken Police Department. All three were arrested, police said.
Lee Patrick Connor Rushe, 26, of Derry, Ireland and James Boyle, 23, of Coleraine, Ireland, told police they were waiting for a taxicab on Park Avenue near Newark Street at around 3 a.m. on Saturday, March 21 when Anthony Vivolo allegedly approached them and attacked them with a stick.
According to their account to police, Vivolo allegedly struck Rushe on the right hand, causing a laceration, and struck Boyle on the left hand and right shoulder.
Vivolo, a 24-year-old resident of Colts Neck, told police he had been walking on Park Avenue when the duo allegedly approached and started striking him, causing injury to his right ear and left hand.
The stick was recovered a short distance from the scene, according to police.
Vivolo was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and released on a summons, police said. Rushe and Boyle were charged with aggravated assault and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility on $15,000 bail, according to police.

Don’t try to rob a car with the owner standing there

An alleged burglary of a car in Hoboken was foiled when the car’s owner intervened to halt the crime, according to a report from the Hoboken Police Department. Two New Jersey men were arrested and charged with burglary and criminal attempt theft, police said.
On the evening of Saturday, March 7, Hoboken police officers were dispatched to the area of Fourth and Washington streets to meet with a man who had lost his car keys and believed them to be stolen, according to police. The man was waiting by his car.
The officers told the complainant they would circle the block and look for possible suspects, police said.
After the police departed, the victim observed a male allegedly approach his vehicle, enter it, and begin searching it, according to police. The victim allegedly ran to his car, pulled out the male, later identified as Herberth Chacon, 23, of Hillside, and held him until the police returned, police said.
According to police, the victim saw an alleged accomplice of Chacon, later identified as Duane Daniels, 22, of Newark, allegedly attempt to leave the area and was able to detain him as well. Chacon was allegedly found to be in possession of the missing car keys, police said.
According to police, both Chacon and Daniels were transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail.

Alleged olive oil thief fails to slip away

A Union City man’s alleged attempt to smuggle olive oil out of a Washington Street grocery store under his clothes was tripped up by an attentive employee, according to a report from the Hoboken Police Department. Antonio Gomez, 56, was arrested and charged with shoplifting, police said.
At around 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, an employee of the store saw Gomez allegedly conceal three bottles of extra virgin olive oil valued at $26.97 and exit the building without paying for them, according to police.
The employee confronted Gomez and escorted him back inside, where he was detained until the Hoboken police responded to a call from the storeowner, police said.
Upon arrival, officer Frank Francolino obtained a signed complaint from the storeowner accusing Gomez of shoplifting, according to police. After processing, Gomez was released on a summons, police said.
