JERSEY CITY — The eastbound lanes of the Holland Tunnel heading into New York will be closed from midnight to 8 a.m. Sunday, March 29, to allow the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to conduct an emergency response drill. In addition to the eastbound tunnel, there also will be local road closings and diversions on Jersey City streets.
Motorists traveling to New York during this time are advised to use the Lincoln Tunnel or the George Washington Bridge. The Holland Tunnel’s New Jersey-bound lanes will be open during the drill.
Sunday’s exercise will test the tunnel’s emergency plan for mutual aid response, enabling Tunnel and Bridge Agents and local emergency organizations to train together and validate response procedures. The exercise will include members of the Port Authority Police Department, Jersey City Police Department, Jersey City Fire Department, New Jersey State Police and other emergency responders.
