NORTH BERGEN — New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials Tuesday announced the closure of two lanes of I-495 eastbound in North Bergen, Hudson County, tonight and tomorrow night for emergency repairs to the bridge over Paterson Plank Road. I-495 is the main feeder into the Lincoln Tunnel and this work is just east of the NJ Turnpike and Routes 1&9.
They noted: “Beginning on Feb. 17, the right two lanes of I-495 eastbound over Paterson Plank Road will be closed to repair concrete supporting the head joint between the east abutment and the bridge deck. The far right lane, which will be closed, is a deceleration lane for the Kennedy Boulevard exit. However, Kennedy Boulevard exit will remain open. The left two lanes will be maintained tonight throughout the construction.
“On Wednesday, February 18, at 7 p.m. the left two lanes will be closed for construction. The right lane and right deceleration lane/Kennedy Boulevard exit will be maintained tomorrow night while the work is taking place. The construction is expected to be completed overnight before the morning commute both tonight and tomorrow night.
“Motorists heading inbound to the Lincoln Tunnel should expect heavy congestion in the area and are advised to seek alternate routes tonight and tomorrow night.
“Variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.”
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information websitewww.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
