To the Editor:
As a native Bayonnian, I had early exposure to The Driveway Syndrome that envelops Bayonne. The message is “Stay Out!” However, the letter to the editor of January 21 prompted me to write this letter.
Not everyone is lucky enough to have a private driveway. We live in a crowded city with too many cars and too few spaces. The described scenario of a delivery car standing in or blocking one’s driveway is a familiar one.
Still, standing in a spot with the engine running is not the same as parking in a driveway and walking away.
You were upset because a delivery vehicle stood in your drive for less than five minutes to attend to the adjacent apartment house?
I hope your heart will be big enough to condone using a driveway instead of blocking a traffic lane with potentially worse repercussions, like an accident or a pedestrian incident.
It is regrettable that the driver you challenged “got nasty” with you instead of showing gratitude for your tolerance.
Perhaps a little more patience and less territorialism might be in order here?
Maybe we all can let common courtesies apply to both driveway owners and delivery drivers?
