Dear Editor:
On December 23, while walking on the corner of Eleventh Street and Park Avenue, I slipped and fell. The weather was warm and the ground was still wet from an earlier rain. I was walking at a brisk pace, as I stepped on one of those bright red, plastic ramp covers. I usually have good balance, and luckily, slipped with my right leg, not my left (which is recovering from a minor injury).
A few weeks before this a friend told me he had a similar experience, also when the temperature was above the freezing point. I noticed that these horrible slipping hazards are all over my uptown neighborhood. I avoid walking over them during damp weather. Who had these ramp covers installed?
We would be better off without them. They serve no functional purpose and I am sure that many others have had the same experience. Now that these incidences have been brought to the publics attention, it’s up to the mayor and the city council to do something about it, or wait until there is an injury that results in a lawsuit.
