Funeral services have been held for Jimmy Pflug, 90. He passed away Jan. 23 at Hoboken University Medical Center. Born Ferdinand James Pflug, he was a lifelong Hoboken resident. He was raised and he later raised his own family in the city he lovingly called “Sun Valley”. He was the son of the late Edith Milligan Pflug and Dr. Ferdinand Pflug, and brother of the late Dr. David L. Pflug and Kathleen Matthieson Keim. He attended Hoboken public schools, graduating from A.J. Demarest. He played football while attending Bucknell University. He was a brother of the Euclid Lodge, Free Masons for over 50 years. He served in the 4th U.S. Marine Division in World War II at Iwo Jima and Saipan and served state side in the Korean War.
He commuted by PATH to New York City all his working life. A fire protection engineer, he worked with Hamlin Insurance Co. NYC and completed his career with the U.S. General Services Administration at Federal Plaza. A sports fan for much of his life, he attended scores of Hoboken High School football games and was a longtime NY Giants’ season ticket holder. He loved reminiscing about his youthful summers at the Jersey Shore and in later years delighted in fishing in coastal Maine and Rhode Island.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan Andersen Pflug, and three of their four children, Dean Pflug of Union City, Scott Pflug (MaryAnn Fonseca) of East Providence, R.I. and Dana PflugPalmieri (John Palmieri) of Atlantic City. Their son, Allen Pflug, died in 1972. Mr. Pflug leaves behind his grandchildren, Amanda Pflug, Rickia Fonseca, Edith Palmieri, and J. Douglas Palmieri (Michele Maker Palmieri); nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends also survive. Services arranged by the Failla Funeral Home, Hoboken.
