Dear Editor:
Adjust the speed limit in Hoboken. The citywide speed limit is 25 MPH. Most people feel that the posted speed limit is a “give or take” suggestion and to exceed that by 5-7 miles per hour is fine and that a cop won’t pull you over for that. In my opinion 25 MPH is too fast to be driving on the streets of Hoboken. There are a lot of children around schools and parks and a lot of parents with strollers. There is no reason to be traveling these congested streets at 25 MPH.
The state suggests that the minimum speed limit is 25 unless otherwise posted. Well let’s post 20 MPH as the limit and enforce that. The city is only 1 mile long in either direction. At 15 MPH it would take 4 minutes to get from one end of town to the other. Of course you have to account for stop signs and traffic signals, so what are we talking about, 7 -9 minutes? 20 MPH seems more than adequate. How about these speed demons that use Hoboken as a cut threw in the morning and evening? Arm the police with radar equipment and make the streets safer for everyone.
