SECAUCUS – A snowplow driver escaped with only minor injuries when a huge hole opened on the top deck of an outdoor parking garage beneath his rig this past weekend.
The three-story garage is located adjacent to the Clarion Hotel Empire Meadowlands Hotel Harmon Plaza, just off Meadowlands Parkway. The 40-foot wide hole opened up about 7 a.m. on Saturday morning, when few vehicles were in the garage.
At least one vehicle sustained damage when the floor caved in and the snowplow and driver dropped into the hole.
According to Mayor Michael Gonnelli, the parking deck was due to be resurfaced in the spring. “They’re shoring it up now and bringing in a structural engineer to assess it,” he said.
