JERSEY CITY – City officials are putting a plan into place to handle a potential accumulation of three feet. Mayor Steven M. Fulop and the Office of Emergency Management, in coordination with the Jersey City Incinerator Authority (JCIA), have launched an aggressive snow removal plan.
“Our JCIA crews have been out since 5 a.m. this morning salting and treating roadways and we will move to a snow removal operation as the storm intensifies,” said Mayor Fulop. “We have brought in additional public safety personnel, as well as all snow removal crews and will be keeping residents updated throughout the storm.”
The Fire Department has all companies fully-staffed and city fire recruits have been reassigned from the fire academy to assist with any other storm-related needs including shoveling snow from fire hydrants.
The Police Department has called in the midnight shift to begin at 7 p.m. and personnel from earlier shifts will be maintained to handle with storm- related emergencies. Any resident with an emergency is reminded to call 9-11. Any non-emergency calls should be directed to 201-547-5477.
Residents may also call the Resident Response Center at 201-547-4900. The Resident Response Center will remain operational through the night and into tomorrow evening. Residents can call 201-547-4900 and receive a live person up until 5 pm tonight. After which they can call the RRC at OEM command center at 201-547-5566.
All municipal offices closed at noon on Monday and will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 27. Municipal Court also closed early on Monday due to inclement weather and will be closed, Tuesday, Jan. 27. All cases scheduled for the 9 a.m. 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. sessions will receive a new court dates in the mail.
The City Council Caucus meeting is canceled for Monday, however, the regularly scheduled City Council meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, in City Council Chambers. A brief caucus will be held prior to the meeting.
Garbage and recycling has been suspended for Monday, Jan. 26.
Construction sites for Monday have been advised to be in the process of shutting down operations and securing sites, meaning any loose materials, fences, and other equipment. No construction will be permitted on Tuesday to allow for snow removal operations or emergency actions on sites. Owners and property managers are being advised to monitor roofs, especially where drifts bank against walls for weight buildup and open roof drains.
The Recreation Department has canceled all programming and after school activities – including after school meal sites – Monday and Tuesday. Programming will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 28.
The Department of Health & Human Services has partnerships with the following agencies, who will be relocating anyone in need of shelter. Garden State Episcopal Drop In Center, 514 Newark Ave (Hudson Gardens Coordinated Entry Program) 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily; Hudson County Self Help Center, 880 Bergen Avenue, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily; and Hudson Pride Connections Center, 32 Jones Street, Monday & Wednesday: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Senior Meals: Monday’s Meals on Wheels home meal deliveries will be completed to the best of the ability of our drivers, given the available resources and driving conditions. If possible, meals scheduled to be delivered on Tuesday will be distributed on Monday. There will be no home-delivered meals on Tuesday. Anybody who did not receive a meal on Monday will receive it on Wednesday, and regular meal delivery is scheduled to resume on Wednesday. All HHS congregate senior meal sites will be closed on Tuesday. These Berry Gardens, Boyd McGuiness, Grace Senior Center, Lafayette Living Center, Ocean Towers, Olga Rodriguez Senior Center, Villa Borinquen (PACO), Joseph Connors Senior Center, and Maureen Collier Senior Center.
