HUDSON COUNTY — Most area school districts announced an early closing on Monday, Jan. 26 due to the blizzard that was expected to bring 1 to 2 feet of snow to Hudson County.
Some districts, including Hoboken, will see a 1 p.m. dismissal, while Bayonne, Union City, Jersey City, and some others will close at 12:45. West New York intends to close at precisely 1:06. Secaucus has several closings that are even earlier in the morning. Weehawken and North Bergen have a one-session day.
As of late Sunday, the city of Hoboken, for one, declared a state of emergency, asking cars to be moved off of emergency routes.
They sent out this notice: “The City of Hoboken Office of Emergency Management has declared a snow emergency in advance of a major winter storm forecast to impact our area. The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for a ‘crippling and possibly historic blizzard’ from Monday, January 26 at 1:00 p.m. through midnight on Tuesday, January 27. Snow accumulations of 20 to 30 inches or more, wind gusts up to 65 mph, life-threatening conditions, and extremely dangerous travel are forecast.”
Parking was prohibited on emergency routes starting at 9 p.m. Sunday evening, Jan. 25.
