A funeral mass was performed Jan. 15 at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Jersey City, for Philip R. Leonard, 63. He died Jan. 10 at home in Jersey City. Born in Jersey City, he was a lifelong resident. Phil was a clerk with Norfolk Southern Railroad for 45 years retiring in 2012. Phil was an avid fisherman who plied his hobbies between the waters of the Atlantic Ocean for salt water adventures and the fish of the fresh water streams and rivers of the Newton area, where he maintain a trailer campsite. He was very skilled and very few of “the big ones” got away. Phil took pride in organizing the annual St. Patrick Day party and the always theme-centered Halloween Parties for family and friends at their Jersey City residence. He spent many hours enjoying horror movies with Alyse. His loyalty to Green Bay Packers will have his family rooting for a win in the Super Bowl this year.
He was predeceased by his brothers Michael and Christopher Leonard. Surviving are his wife Carolynn (Damico) Leonard; his sons Philip J and Marc Leonard; his daughter Shannon Bienvenue; his grandchildren Bella Hope Leonard and Walter Edward Bienvenue; his brother Patrick Leonard and sister Kathy Shortell, and many nieces and nephews.
