55, of East Brunswick, passed away on January 8, 2015 after battling cancer. Gary was born and raised in Bayonne and after graduating high school in 1976, and he earned a degree from Jersey City State College in 1983 with a in Music Education and Performance. He was an accomplished classical guitarist and music educator, working in the Bayonne Board of Education music department for 28 years. He was also a member of various music groups and loved playing baseball and basketball, among other hobbies and interests. He is survived by his mother Margaret Oberwanowicz (nee Stofira), his children Hope and Jacob, his sister Janice Mezzacappa, his significant other Linda Clemente of Marlboro, and many family and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Alexander Oberwanowicz. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
