Dear Editor:
Over the years I have disagreed with T. Weed on many issues, but on the topic of the possible re-development of Washington Street he hit the nail on the head. Spending money to make more room for bicycles we don’t have is the height of foolishness. Washington Street isn’t perfect, but it is one of the few streets on which traffic flows. More important the project will be costly, at a time when we are all reeling from the property tax increases. Hopefully this rolling reval will be stopped in its tracks.
My taxes have gone up 40 percent in three years and the city has to husband its resources and find ways not to spend money. Yes, we know the county taxes are the driving force of much of our tax situation, but if we don’t find ways to limit our spending to projects that really matter, we will lose our long time homeowners and the special quality that has made Hoboken such a wonderful environment for so many years.
