Subacz and Jets “D” key win

Needing just one more victory to clinch the top seed in the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football Jr. Division “Championship Tournament,” the (6-2-1) Jets took on the (4-6) Colts. The Jets got on the board first as Dylan Subacz raced 35 yards to paydirt followed by Aaliyana Cifuentes’ two point catch to give the Jets an 8-0 lead. The Colts fired back as Talen Alsop blazed full court to cut the Jets’ lead to 8-6. Alsop then picked off a Jets’ pass attempt but Jake Bellero, Brendan McCall, and the rest of the Jets’ defense kept the Colts from cashing in. With the ball back in the hands of their offense, the Jets returned to their air attack as QB Dylan Subacz hit Andres Giron for a 15 yard TD strike lifting the Jets’ lead to 14-6. After a false start pinned their offense at the one foot mark, the Colts fell prey to the Jets’ defense as the Jets swarmed the Colts’ ballcarrier for a two point safety. Down 16-6, the Colts’ offense turned to their league leading scorer Talen Alsop who once again went wire to wire for a TD on a short dart from QB Roman Popowski. Popowski then added the two point P.A.T. with a diving grab. With their lead narrowed to 16-14, the Jets stormed up court with their shifty FB Dylan Subacz breaking free for a 25 yard TD gallop as they increased their lead to 22-14. With less than 30 seconds remaining, the Colts’ threw a scare into the Jets’ ranks as Raunak Verma’s 10 yard dash put the ball at the Jets’ 3 yard line. One play later, Colts’ QB Roman Popowski drilled a TD pass to Talen Alsop making it 22-20, Jets but the P.A.T. failed and the Jets held on the clinch the win and a spot in this year’s championship game.
