BAYONNE – The holiday season was officially launched for the students and community of Henry Harris School on Friday, Dec. 12 when the lights were switched on for the nearly 60-foot tree in front of the building.
Mayor James Davis, Schools Superintendent Patricia McGeehan, Principal Maria Kazimir, and city council and board of education members were all in attendance.
The Henry Harris School Choir entertained, singing “O Christmas Tree,” “Frosty the Snowman,” and “Jingle Bells.”
First Ward Councilman Tom Cotter, whose daughter attends the elementary school, said the 57-foot spruce had been on the site for years. Kazimir thanked Cotter for spending a whole day in the tree decorating it with the lights.
McGeehan commended the Henry Harris parent-teacher organization for committing to the project, Kazimir for being supportive, and the students, teachers, and others for coming out for the ceremony.
“I wish you, each and every one of you, a very happy holiday,” McGeehan said.
School officials thanked International-Matex Tank Terminals for the company’s equipment to help decorate the tree. –Joseph Passantino
