Leading the pack at (4-1), the Jets took on the (3-3) Colts in a JCC of Bayonne Jr. Division Indoor Flag Football week five bout. Featuring the league’s two top scorers, Talen Alsop (Colts, 118pts) and Andres Giron (Jets, 98 pts) both teams relied heavenly on their offenses. The Jets got things rolling with a 20 yard TD strike to Andres Giron and a two point pass to Brendan McCall to take an 8-0 lead. The Colts cut it to 8-6 with Roman Popowski’s 30 yard TD sprint. Up by two, the Jets once again got the ball to Giron who notched his second TD with another 20 yard TD catch. Just before the half, the Colts tied the bout at 14 all on a Talen Alsop TD reception and a Popowski two point grab. Opening the second half, the Jets exploded for 14 points as Andres Giron raced wire to wire for a TD followed by Dylan Subacz’s coast to coast TD gallop and two point sweep to give the Jets a commanding 28-14 advantage. Taking a page from the Jets’ playbook, the Colts’ Roman Popowski zipped goal to goal for a TD while Alsop’s two point rumble made it 28-22, Jets. With the Jets locked in their sights, the Colts’ defense kicked in with a two point safety as Christian Mekheil, Raunak Verma, and Talen Alsop trapped the Jets’ runner in the endzone to cut the Jets’ lead to 28-24. With the Colts marching up court and poised to take the lead, the Jets’ Aaliyana Cifuentes and Jake Bellero came up with two huge defensive stops to end the Colts’ drive. With the outcome still up for grabs, the Jets finally sealed the victory as Andres Giron sailed zone to zone for a TD before topping off his 26 point day with a two point run as the Jets prevailed 36-24.
