SECAUCUS – Acting Police Chief John Cerny announced his retirement after 26 years of service to the Secaucus Police Department. Deputy Chief Cerny has served honorably in the role of acting chief since former Chief Dennis Corcoran’s retirement earlier this year. Mayor Michael Gonnelli lauded Acting Chief Cerny’s time at the helm of the Secaucus Police Department, noting that Cerny has worked hard at helping to resolve quality of life issues throughout town as well as towards having the Secaucus Police Department become one of the few accredited police departments in the State of New Jersey.
The Mayor and Council are expected to name Captain Kevin Flaherty as the officer in charge at the next council meeting until a permanent new chief is appointed.
