BAYONNE – Santa visited Bayonne again this holiday season, and this time it was for the tree-lighting ceremony at Fitzpatrick Park, near City Hall, on Thursday, Dec. 4.
For the second time in two weeks, Santa arrived via Bayonne Fire Department truck to the applause and appreciation of dozens of children, their parents, and others.
A grammar school group had treated attendees to renditions of “Jingle Bells,” “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer,” and, appropriately, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
A prayer was offered by Bishop Thomas Donato of the Newark Archdiocese.
Mayor James Davis and Council Members Thomas Cotter, Sal Gullace, Gary La Pelusa, Sharon Nadrowski, and Juan Perez attended.
“I’m here to wish all of you a happy and safe holiday and new year,” Davis said.
Santa then stayed to talk with children attending the event. – Joseph Passantino
