A funeral mass was held Dec. 3 at The Episcopal Church of Our Savior, Secaucus, for Edna DeFerrari Mondadori, 88, of Secaucus. She passed away Nov. 28. She was born in Union City to the late Frank and Elizabeth DeFerrari. She was the widow of the late William F. Mondadori and mother of four sons: Richard and his wife Joyce, Peter, Steven and his wife Doreen and Greg and his wife Patricia. She is survived by 10 grandchildren: Dana Patton, Doug Mondadori, Mark Mondadori, Andrea Llauget, Dawn Snyder, Leah Miller, Erica Mondadori, Amy Mondadori, Lucas Mondadori, Laura Mondadori, and two great grandchildren, Finnegan Patton and Kayla Snyder.
Edna was named the 2003 Hudson County Senior Citizen of the Year. She actively volunteered at Meadowlands Hospital, then became director of Volunteer Services. She started and ran the Alzheimer Support Group at Meadowlands Hospital. Edna was also the Recipient of the 1969 Jersey Journal Women of Achievement Award. She was very active in the Secaucus Women’s Club, holding the position of president. She was involved in volunteer work at the Church of Our Saviour, with over 50 years of service to the church.
In addition, she donated her time to Clarendon School for reading to special education students. She enjoyed reading very much, and was very active in the Secaucus Public Library, where she was co-founder of the Library Book Club and was instrumental in the beginning of Pre-K Story Time/ Reading Hour. She also participated in the Project Linus program, crocheting blankets for sick children. Aside from her passion for volunteering, she also enjoyed gardening, playing scrabble, and striking up conversations with anyone and everyone in the Secaucus community.
