Jersey City police officer hit by minivan

JERSEY CITY — A police officer directing traffic at about 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 at Columbus Avenue and Marin Boulevard was struck by a mini van.

The 36-year-old driver of the Dodge Town and Country minivan was tested and allegedly failed a sobriety test, said Carly Baldwin, spokesperson for the Jersey City Department of Public Safety.

Baldwin said the intersection is particularly busy at rush hour. The mini-van driver was apparently heading towards the Holland Tunnel and tried to drive around other vehicles when he allegedly struck the police officer.

“The officer reported pain to his hip area,” Baldwin said. “He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, treated and since released. The driver (allegedly) failed a sobriety test at scene and was charged with DWI.”
