BAYONNE – After four years, contentious contract negotiations, and another three months following settlement, city teachers will finally receive their retroactive pay no later than Dec. 10, according to a statement released by Mayor James Davis.
“Over the last few days, I’ve been in constant contact with Bayonne School Board President William Lawson regarding the disbursement of retro checks to Bayonne’s teachers,” Davis said in a press release. “Mr. Lawson has assured me that – at the very latest – all retro checks will be released by next week, marking Wednesday, December 10th as the estimated date of disbursement.”
City teachers had been upset that even after the Sept. 2 contract agreement, more than three months had gone by without the retroactive pay checks being distributed.
“This process certainly has not been perfect,” Davis said. “However, the outcome will remain the same: Bayonne’s hardworking teachers will receive the compensation they were guaranteed via the newly negotiated contract.”
