Alsop leads Colts to comeback win

After an impressive opening day victory, the now (1-3) Bears have struggled to regain their stride while the once (0-3) Colts have begun to “right the ship” as they now sit at (2-3) in the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football Jr. Division. The Bears took control in the early going as Nicholas Resua notched his 6th TD of the season giving the Bears a 6-0 lead. The Bears’ tenacious defense then got into the act as Chandler Owens, Logan Page, and Matt Miceli pounced on the Jets’ ballcarrier for a two point safety and an 8-0 Bears’ advantage. With their passing game grounded, the Colts turned to their playmaker Talen Alsop for a spark and Alsop answered with a goal to goal sprint to paydirt cutting the Bears’ lead to 8-6. For the rest of the first half, the Bears’ defense held the fort to set up a Nazar Kolesnyk TD plunge and a Resua two point dash as the Bears stretched their lead to 16-6. Staying solid on defense, the Bears malled the Colts for another two point safety as the Bears’ lead ballooned to 18-6. Speeding towards the two minute warning, the Colts’ offense finally got back on track as team captain Talen Alsop once again torched the court for a shore to shore score making it 18-12, Bears. After a key stop by Raunak Verma on a Bears’ third down attempt, the Colts’ offense once again took over and quickly cashed in as Alsop blazed for another wire to wire TD. Knotted at 18 all, the Bears were poised to grab the lead, but the Colts’ Talen Alsop had other ideas as Alsop pilfered a Bears’ pass attempt at the Colts one yard line. With the Bears falling prey to the Colts’ sweep attack, QB Roman Popowski brilliantly set up a game winning toss sweep with a play fake to Verma before pitching out to Alsop who added to his frequent flyer miles by once again soaring coast to coast for his 4th TD of the game. Alsop then closed out the Colts’ come from behind 26-18 victory with a two point run.
