Town donates more than 500 Thanksgiving meals

More than 500 North Bergen residents came to the North Bergen Recreation Center on Monday morning, Nov. 24 to receive donated turkeys, canned goods, trimmings, and ShopRite giftcards.
The drive was sponsored by the North Bergen Emergency Relief Program and the Nicholas J. Sacco Foundation.
Items were collected between Monday, Nov. 3 and Thursday, Nov. 20 at various locations throughout town. Families or seniors in need of a meal were able to sign up online or over the phone.

People lined up as early as 7:30 a.m. outside 6300 Meadowview Ave. on Monday to receive the donated items. Everyone came away delighted, with all the fixings they need to cook a complete Thanksgiving meal.
In addition to Mayor Sacco, others who attended and helped give out turkeys and more included Commissioner Hugo Cabrera, Freeholder-Elect Anthony Vainieri, Health Director Janet Castro, Emergency Relief Coordinator Aimee Focaraccio – who planned the event – and employees from the Health and Recreation departments.
