Bayonne group gives out turkeys for holiday

BAYONNE AND BEYOND – A city organization made Thanksgiving a little bit better for some by distributing hundreds of free turkeys to the needy on Sunday, Nov. 23. The Bayonne Initiative held the public event at its headquarters at 174 Broadway.

The group had purchased 1,000 turkeys, and had already contributed 200 of them to community groups in Bayonne and Jersey City before the weekend.

Councilman Sal Gullace was on hand to help out, as were students from St. Peter’s University in Jersey City.

Initiative spokesman Pat Desmond said the group expected to give out all 1,000 turkeys prior to the holiday.
