Private funeral services have been held for Mary Jean Guadadiello. She died Nov. 11 at her home. A lifelong Jersey City resident, she was a teacher for the Jersey City Board of Education. During her 26 year tenure she taught mathematics and science. Mary Jean was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School. She attained her B.A. and Master’s degrees in education from New Jersey City University formerly Jersey State Teachers College. Among many awards, she was honored as Teacher of the Year.
She was Commissioner of the Historic Preservation Commission, a realtor for Boyne Realty, a member of the Art Certification Commission: and the Jeremiah T. Healy Charitable Foundation and foundress of the Anthony Guadadiello Scholarship Fund wife of David N. Pickens and the late Anthony Guadadiello.
She was the daughter of the late Jean and John Smarro; sister of Doreen and her husband Lawrence Finnell of Marlboro and the late John Smarro; aunt of Lawrence J. Finnell and wife Andrea of Fair Haven, Catherine and husband Derek Schork and their daughter Julianna Rose, Meghan Finnell of Manhattan, and Kevin Finnell of Freehold. Niece of Herbert Smarro and Anthony Ferrino. Sister -in-law of Frank Guadadiello, William Howard Pickens and wife Patricia, Ann Grayeski and husband Frank, John Pickens and wife Ann, Margaret Showalter and husband J.R. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services arranged by the Greenville Memorial Home, Jersey City.
