Women’s club is thankful

To the Editor:

The members of the GFWC Peninsula Women’s Club would like to thank everyone who has made our recent events possible.
On October 2, we held our Dine Out at San Vito’s to help fund our Senior Activism award. We sincerely thank Anthony Ventrone and his family for San Vito’s continued support, as well as those who came out and enjoyed a great meal for a great cause. Our Senior Activism Award is given to a Bayonne female high school graduate, based on her essay about her community service. For those interested in applying for the award, the process will begin in February, with a recipient announced in April.
Big thanks to Linda Sacco, President of NAMI Hudson County, for stopping by our October meeting to discuss mental illness. As part of our Special State Project the club will be working very closely with Ms. Sacco to assist in promoting awareness regarding mental illness.
On October 21, our 4th Annual Read for the Record event was held at the Bayonne Public Library. Children attending the literacy event enjoyed a reading of Bunnycakes, making bunny ears and a birthday craft, and were treated to a cupcake. Special thanks to the Bayonne Public Library for the cooperation in providing a space, and arrangement. Thanks to Elisha Hannafey DeMaria who organized a sensory reading of Bunnycakes earlier in the month, and donated her extra supplies to be used at our event.
Thank you to all the vendors who participated in our October 25 vendor fair at the Firehouse Recreation Center as well as those who stopped by to browse, shop, and/or pick up some membership information about our organization. We also want to thank Pete Amadeo and the City of Bayonne for the assistance in scheduling the use of city facilities for our meetings and events.
Our next meeting will be held Wednesday, November 19 at 7 p.m. at the 56th St. Senior Center. New members are always welcome! The GFWC Peninsula Woman’s Club of Bayonne is a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC) of GFWC and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC).
