HOBOKEN — The Hudson Reporter was named Hoboken’s best business of the year at the 2014 Hoboken Chamber of Commerce Business Awards this past Thursday, and several other small local businesses and agencies took home honors. The awards recognize the effort it takes to run a small business in the mile-square city.
Among the other winners were HOPES, Cucharamama, the Provident Bank, Hoboken Hot House, and the Stevens Institute.
“We take great pride in informing the community and keeping our newspapers very community oriented,” said Hudson Reporter advertising manager Tish Kraszyk, who accepted the award in lieu of publishers David Unger and Lucha Malato. “We’ll do our best to continue to provide you with great community service and great information going forward.”
One of the most enthusiastic winners was Karen Nason, the owner of Hoboken Hot House, which took home the trophy for Best New Business of the Year. The home décor store and cafe opened a new location at Second and Monroe streets last October. She touted her location in southwest Hoboken.
“It’s not just Williamsburg, Brooklyn, baby, that’s gonna do it,” said Nason. “We’re gonna do it and I started it and I want you to continue it because Hoboken is so cool.”
